Sacred Aboriginal SitesKakadu is considered to be a sacred indigenous site, in its own right, but there are many sacred sites in the park such as Nourlangie and Ubirr. Nourlangie and Ubirr are aboriginal rock art sites, which are placed in rocky outcrops where aboriginal people sheltered. Said to around 20000 years old, these paintings are magnificent. These pictures were painted to increase income of food through hunting, teaching and learning of the dreaming or dreamtime and religious significance.
