THe northern Quoll
Human ImpactsNorthern Quoll. When the Cane Toad was introduced in Australia by sugar cane growers in 1935 to stop the detrimental effect on the cane crop from the Frenchi and Grey- back Cane beetle, no one thought of the damaging effects it would have on the native Northern Quoll. When the Cane Toad is attacked by a Northern Quoll, it is injected with poison and dies, this has led to its decline in numbers. As well as new agriculture and urban development and feral cats the number of Quolls has decreased dramatically.

Management Stratagies A management strategy has been put in place to protect the Northern Quoll. Offshore islands have been quarantined of Cane Toads and feral cats, so the Northern Quoll will be safe from foreign predators. Also, there is a breeding program trying to save dying breeds of Northern Quoll. In safe environments, Quolls are bred until there is a sustainable number, then they are sent back out into the wild.
